EMPOWER Yourself and Your Fitness Routine in 2012

EMPOWER Fitness Events - January 03, 2012

Group Fitness Junkie: Noun. A person who is fanatical about all things sweating, pumping and grooving in the Group Fitness department at Life Time Fitness.

You know who you are. You arrive early to class. You plunk yourself in the front row, eager to jam. After only a few minutes in, you’re practically leading your fellow groupies through class.

The EMPOWER! Fitness Event Series was made for you and like-minded fitness enthusiasts, including current and aspiring fitness professionals. Created in 2006 by Kimberly Spreen, national director of Group Fitness Programming and Education at Life Time Fitness, in conjunction with her husband, Rob, EMPOWER has grown from a local event in the Twin Cities to seven national conferences with up to 300 attendees* per event.

“The first EMPOWER came to fruition from the desire to provide continuing education for the local fitness community,” said Kimberly. “The response was fantastic and we realized something, ‘Why not offer these events across Life Time markets?’”

EMPOWER is unique from larger fitness conferences held in New York City or Los Angeles. It caps the maximum participation number; it’s offered across the United States, making it easy for locals to attend; and EMPOWER brings world-renowned fitness professionals and instructor trainings to your Life Time.

So, what happens at EMPOWER? You can:

  • Become trained in everything from ZUMBA® to Schwinn® Cycling to the first in the Life Time-branded GFIT (Group Fitness Instructor Training) series

  • Attend master classes with top-notch instructors free or for a minimal cost at most conferences

  • Even, get down with the likes of Shaun T. of INSANITY fame or learn from SGT. Ken Weichert, Boot Camp creator

Kimberly exclaims, “EMPOWER is truly a celebration of and for fitness enthusiasts. It provides a gateway for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of fitness or who is interested in becoming an instructor.”

EMPOWER events are open to Life Time members and non-members. They feature classes, lectures, workshops and shopping expositions. Plus, this year EMPOWER is pleased to introduce a health fair component, which will include free health screenings. Kimberly adds, “EMPOWER is more than fitness. It’s about creating a healthy way of life.”

The 2012 EMPOWER Fitness Event Series kicks off its first session in Dallas this February. Additional EMPOWER conferences will be held in Chicago, Las Vegas, Columbus, Minneapolis, Denver and Atlanta.

*EMPOWER! Fusion in Chicago is a larger conference with more than 1,200 participants.
